Lisa Snowdon: This Is My Number 1 Mindful Hack

3 MIN READ • 18th December 2021

Can tweaking your outlook really transform your day? TV presenter, podcast host and wellness lover Lisa Snowdon thinks so

There are some people who just radiate good energy when you speak to them, and TV presenter and podcast host Lisa Snowdon, is definitely one of those people. Having spent her time in lockdown developing her podcast Get Lifted, which covers everything from the menopause to the lunar cycle, Lisa is on a mission to empower women in all stages of life and that, she explains to us, starts from doing the work within.

How does positivity factor into your day-to-day?

I’m a big believer in positive energy. I love the concept of manifesting and the law of attraction. Dreaming big and thinking big, and not feeling like you or your ideas are too much. I think it’s important to try and change the way you look at your day by flipping things around and looking at the positives. It’s hard for us, especially in the UK when the seasons change. But taking vitamin D and using one of those SAD lights to boost our mood can really help. Smells as well, they’re so important! I’ve got this mood mist from my friend Paolo who makes it every month under the light of the full moon, and I often spray that. I just think you can change your energy and mood with scent. Plants as well – having living things around you is gorgeous. I believe that being positive is definitely a state of mind.

What does holistic healthy living look like and mean to you?

To me, holistic living is everything. I look at that as having your body; your mind and everything in check. It should all be balanced. I also think it’s about doing things which make you feel happy. And, of course, food, nutrition and movement are all really important as well. Those are the elements, for me, that equal a holistic life. This is why I wanted to create my podcast so much, because it covers all of that.

What was the inspiration behind starting your own podcast?

I started my podcast Get Lifted during lockdown last year. George and I had Covid-19 during that time and I felt extremely tense over that period (I know a lot of other people did as well), so I wanted to start digging into some practices we could do at home. I didn’t want to leave the house or spend any money, I just wanted to work with what we had. So, I started doing breathwork and meditation and I tried to learn more about crystals and the moon […] I wanted to take a look at nature and the world, and think about how to connect to that, which was the inspiration behind the podcast. Each episode is designed to tackle different topics we’re all going through and it was such a journey when I first started it. I produced it myself and booked the guests – it was all mine. I knew how I wanted it to be and how I wanted it to reach people.

We hear about self-care a lot these days but what is it for you?

Self-care, for me, looks like running a hot bath with some amazing bath salts. I’ll maybe do a bit of body scrubbing in the bath, or sit back and read a book, or I’ll do a bit of both. I cleanse and tone religiously every day, so that’s always part of my evening routine as well, then I’ll spray some pillow mist on the bed. And then in the morning, I always shower and finish with a cold rinse. I body brush as well before I get in the shower. I use a dry body brush, with something like the Weleda Cellulite Oil, and then massage that in. It feels so tingly! And then, I usually spritz my moon mist all over me. That sets me up for the day.

Quick-fire Questions

What’s a must-have quality when you’re buying a beauty product?

I love cruelty-free and vegan products. Cruelty-free especially, I’m always conscious of that. There’s no excuse for brands not to do that. I just like beauty products to have less in them, even if that means the shelf-life is shorter, so be it. I like things to be silicone-free and paraben-free as well.

What do you have on your bedside table?

I have an Amythest beside my bed. I find that during the evening it helps me sleep and I have amazing dreams!

What are your favourite beauty products?

My skincare routine always involves a lot of massage, especially in the morning to help wake up the eyes. I love Neals Yard products; their Rose range is stunning. I love Aesop’s Parsley Seed Oil and The Organic Pharmacy. I also love Scentured, which has beautiful candles and the Little Soap Company which is great for when you’re travelling. I also love Rahua for its hair shampoos and its volumising and nourishing ranges. I always go back to those.

What does your ideal morning look like?

A nice morning of breathwork and then 15 minutes or so of gratitude journaling.
